RCB a co-sponsor of Wheelchair Tennis Tour for the differently abled.
We are happy inform you that Rotary Club of Bangalore supported a very worthy cause last week. We joined up with ASTHA, a non-profit organization working towards empowering people with physical disabilities. It has a wing, Indian Wheelchair Tennis Tour (IWTT), which conducted a Wheelchair Tennis tournament from Dec 6th to 9th, here in Bangalore under the aegis of All India Tennis Association in association with KSLTA. Players from all over India participated.
IWTT was formed in December 2016 to build a competitive environment of the sport in our country and to allow differently-abled people to transform their lives using the power of sport. Their aim is to put Indian Wheelchair Tennis on the world map in the next 4 years. IWTT is supported by Sania Mirza, Rohan Bopanna, Kapil Dev, Rahul Dravid, Anand Amritraj and other sports stars. Somdev Devvarman is a part of our Advisory Board.
RCB contributed Rs 25,000 for the catering for the players, ball boys, referees and volunteers and was one of the sponsors for the event.
It was highly motivating to experience the brilliant display of grit and determination of the differently abled men and women in the matches, and the happiness that they derived from getting this opportunity to perform at a competitive level.
The finals and the prize distribution ceremony were held on December 9th 2018
