Memorable visit of Rtns. from Rotary Club of Petaling Jaya
Rotary Club of Bangalore invited members of its Sister Club viz. Rotary Club of Petaling Jaya, Malaysia for a Rotary Friendship Exchange in this month. A nine-member delegation led by President Rtn. Olivia Lim Chwee Tin and comprising of PDG Rtn. David Ho Kwong Choog, Ann Elsie Ho, Past Asst. Governor Rtn. Dato’ Seri Dr. N. Krishna Moorthy, Asst. Governor Rtn. Capt. Sasidharan Harichandran, PP Rtn. Rianne Chin Wai Lee (TRF Director), Mr. Martin Wong, Rtn. Usha Gopalan (President Elect) and Annette Jayneal Dharan Menon visited Bengaluru between 6th and 12th January 2019.
On Monday, 7 January 2019, the visiting Rotarians were guests at the Rotary House of Friendship and were welcomed warmly by our members in traditional South Indian style. The Sister Club Agreement between our Club and Rotary Club of Petaling Jaya was renewed for a further period of 3 years and an agreement was signed by President Rtn. Olivia Lim Chwee Tin and President Rtn. Vivek R. Prabhu. President Rtn. Vivek Prabhu presented a plaque to commemorate the visit and also handed over mementos to the visiting delegation. Rotary Club of Petaling Jaya very generously donated USD 1000 to our Club towards its projects. It is indeed heartening to know that RCB ad RC PJ have been sister clubs since 1976 and we have again renewed our ties to promote international fellowship and partnership in the Rotary World. The meeting was followed by fellowship and dinner at RHF.
During their stay in Bengaluru, RC PJ members visited our Club’s projects viz., the Rotary TTK Blood Bank and a Happy School at Dodderi. They also visited the Indian Institute of Science, RMZ Ecoworld, took the Bengaluru Heritage Walk around Bengaluru Fort and Tipu’s Palace, et al and absolutely loved the experience. Shopping on Commercial Street, Mysore Saree Udyog, Cauvery Emporium, Bangalore Central, etc. was a hit amongst them.
In true RCB style, on every day of their visit to Bangalore, RCBians rose to the occasion and hosted the visiting Rotarians at several fellowship and dinner meetings which the visitors thoroughly enjoyed. RCB Members who visited RC Petaling Jaya a few years ago graciously participated in hosting the visiting Rotarians and chaperoning them to our Projects and other places of interest in Bengaluru. The ready involvement and participation of RCBians during the visit demonstrates the wonderful culture of Club in building camaraderie and friendships.
It was a welcome coincidence that this year’s Kala for Vidya was scheduled during their stay, and PDG Rtn. David Ho inaugurated Kala for Vidya on 11 January 2019 at Taj West End at a glittering ceremony.
The RC PJ members stayed in the beautifully appointed rooms at Bangalore Club, which they truly appreciated. In all, the visit was very successful and I am sure they carried back fond memories of RCB!
