I embarked on the road to Rotary in part because of my friend and mentor George Campbell, who taught me the importance of civic responsibility. After starting down that road, I encountered many other Rotarians walking the same path, who offered their help and made sure I kept moving in the right direction.
I am the person I am today because of Rotary. And to be a member of the Rotary family is to be a part of something much bigger than yourself. It means that you are part of a worldwide team; together, we have provided extraordinary service to the world.
We are closer than ever to achieving our promise of polio eradication. Through service projects, we have met the needs of local and global communities. We have developed strategic partnerships that allow us to work with like-minded organizations and achieve an even great impact.
Today, our world is depending on us to do even more. Now is the time to capitalize on our success and
to catapult Rotary forward to be an even greater force for good in the world. To do this, we must work together. Remember that today is the first day of the rest of your life, and how you spend it is up to you.
I know that, together, we can accomplish great things this year as we continue the tradition of Rotary Serving Humanity.
Sincerely,John R. Germ
2016-17 President, Rotary International
