KALA FOR VIDYA:A canvas of visual delight

Kala for Vidya ! A concept as beautiful as it sounds. Started in 2005-2006  by PP Rtn. G.V. Radhakrishnan and Rtn. Sridhar Chari, it has grown over the years like a banyan tree, gradually spreading its roots and standing stronger with the passage of time.  The first Kala for Vidya(K4V) was held at RHF, mainly to benefit two issues concerning underprivileged sections of society: education for rural children; and artists with an abundance of talent, but yet, not making enough to eke out a decent livelihood. RHF was  transformed into a red carpeted art gallery bedecked with beautiful paintings.

This year K4V was  inaugurated at The Taj West End Art Corridor on 11th January 2019 by PDG Rtn.  David Ho Kwong Choog from our sister club, Rotary Club of Petilingajaya.  He was accompanied by his gracious Ann, Elsie Ho, PP Rtn. Sasidharan Harichandran, PP Rtn. Rianne Chin Wai Lee and spouse Mr. Martin Wong, PAG Dato Seri Rtn. Dr. N. Krishna Moorthy, Rtn. Usha Gopalan (President Elect) and Annette Jayneal  Dharan Menon. During their visit, our clubs have renewed the sister club agreement for a further period of three years .

Rtn. S.R. Kamalacharan, Director International Services Committee and his team, under the stewardship of President Rtn.  Vivek Prabhu worked closely with senior artist Gurudas Shenoy & Amita Shenoy to put together this year’s K4V. The work of 30 eminent artists -  Baldeb Prasad Maharatha, Bharathi Sagar, M.G.Doddamani, Gurudas Shenoy, Milind Nayak, Naina Mathani and S.G.Vasudev to name a few were the delight of any art connoisseur . It was an honour to have many of these eminent artists in our midst that evening.  The collection was curated by Soshan Soma & Shruthi P M of Art Loka under the guidance of Amita Shenoy. The hors d’oeuvres generously sponsored by the Taj , as was the wine by Big Banyan Wines and beer by the UB Group completed the perfect evening of wine and cheese. The exhibition concluded on 13th January.

As for the legendary Taj hospitality – Somnath Mukherjee, Area Director Karnataka and GM Taj West End with his team comprising  Swati Droglia, Pallavi Gopal,Hema , Krinal Shah, Paul Dokka , Sunil Kumar, Aishwarya and all the staff at The Taj West End left no  stone unturned to make everyone comfortable.

For the first time K4V will move to RMZ Ecoworld – Art Gallery between the 23rd and 25th of January , thanks to Rtn. Arjun  Menda .
