MORE HAPPY SCHOOLS
We are happy to announce the signing of an MOU for two significant school projects with the Laxmi Mittal Foundation (LMF). LMF has chosen Rotary Club of Bangalore as their partner for their corporate social responsibility initiatives to make an impact on the education of young children in the rural areas of Karnataka. The MOU was signed at RHF on 30th of July by LMF Managing Trustee, Rtn Sunita Gupta and RCB President & RCBCT Trustee Rtn Vivek Prabhu, in the presence of her children Ms Romanshi and Rtn Vaibhav. Both of them have been very passionately involved in doing an extensive ground work and identifying the schools for which the infrastructure will be improved.
The first one is a high school in the village of Dibbur, Chikkaballapur district, and has over 250 students. This Government school will be refurbished and renovated with new equipment, get a fresh paint, new floors in the classrooms, renovation of the toilets, WINS and other improvements.
The second project is about an existing primary Government School for 50 children in the village of Jeeganahalli, eight kilometres from Chikkaballapur town. Now in a rather sad and dilapidated state, the school will be completely overhauled. This includes building the first floor, new classroom flooring, waterproofing, toilet block for girls and boys, play equipment and new desks etcetera. The attached anganwadi for 15-20 children in the age group of two to five, will also be converted into a ‘Happy Anganwadi’.
The two projects will cost around Rs. 50 lakhs, and the Jeeganahalli School will be done through the TRF facility of Rotary International. International Services Director Rtn. Kamalacharan is coordinating the process for the RI grants. Bhumi Puja for the Dibbur project was already performed on August 2.
These two schools will add to the already existing base of 25+ green field projects carried out by RCB in and around Bangalore over the past few years. It comes on the heels of the completion of the Rs 70 lakh Dodderi High School, which was inaugurated on July 24th 2018. PP Zarir Batha is to be thanked for his tireless efforts in laying the foundation for this relationship with LMF. For carrying out these projects we will again depend on Rtn Manjunath with his vast experience and track record of 108 happy schools and several green field projects for RCB.
In Rtn Sunita Gupta’s words, "we are grateful to the Rotary Club of Bangalore for their enthusiasm and partnership in this project, and look forward to the outcome. We believe that the Rotary Club's success in social enterprise and their passion for socio-economic development will greatly improve these children's lives."
We from the Community Service and International Committees, together with the expert Execution Team led by Rtn. Manjunath and PP Ranga Rao, are equally excited to see the impact the projects will have on the children studying there, their families and the communities around them.
