Dibbur School Inauguration

Delightful Dibbur School Inauguration

Dibbur is a small dusty village, tucked away some 8 Kilometers off the main Expressway on the Bangalore-Hyderabad Road in Chikkaballapur district, about 70 kilometers from Bangalore. It has about 500 houses and 1800 inhabitants. It boasts of a Government high school in which 260 students (of them 170 girls!) in classes 8 to 10 study. They come from surrounding villages.

Till three months ago the Dibbur Government High School was in a rather shabby state with leaking ceiling, seepage in walls, poorly lit rooms, only two toilets for girls. Not so any more!

RCB Rotarian Sunita Gupta and her children Romanshi and Rtn. Vaibhav Gupta identified this school and decided to give it a lift that the 260 students deserve. They signed an MOU with Rotary Club of Bangalore for a complete refurbishment of the school infrastructure. Over the last two months’ work the school got a new 300 feet compound wall, toilet blocks for boys and for girls, ceilings water proofed, all classrooms and the entire exteriors painted and a hand wash trough unit. Thanks, again, to the perfect and thoughtful execution of our Rtn. Manjunath.

The project, which has cost about Rs. 16 lakhs has been funded by the Laxmi Mittal Foundation, whose trustees are Rtns. Sunita Gupta and Vaibhav Gupta. The upgraded school was inaugurated on 10th November by members of Sunita Gupta family and RCB President Rtn. Vivek Prabhu in the presence of the Zilla Parishad President, DDPI of Chikkaballapur, other officials of the education department, Panchayat and the school staff. PP Rtn. Zarir Batha, who had initiated discussions with LMF last year on this project, and Ann Dorothy Batha were also present for the inauguration.

The school has been named ‘Laxmidevi Mittal Rotary Government Higher School, Dibbur’, in memory of Rtn. Sunita Gupta’s mother. Mrs Gupta was all praise for the way the project was executed by RCB and is already planning to take up another school project in Chikkaballapur. Another Rotary Happy school soon!
