Beautiful B.R. Hills
As a fellowship event, to understand activities promoted by our RCB at B.R.hills school, a picnic was arranged on the 7th and 8th of September. A group of 17 rotarians visited this lovely place, which is a hill station, surrounded by evergreen forests. The total population itself is about 2000 in this temple town.
We started off from RHF at 7 am, with 17 energetic rotarians on the bus. Everyone was enthusiastic about the trip, and we reached VGKK campus around 12.30 pm. A detailed inspection of all the projects that were funded by our club, since the last 3 years was made and we were more than impressed with great utilisation of all the items and equipments. To name a few, RCB has donated following items, since the time of presidents Rtns. Sailesh Rudra, followed by Ranga Rao and Zareer Batha.
- Sports equipments.
- Kitchen Equipments and 2 nos of Solar water heaters.
- Girls dormitory refurbishing.
- Class room equipments.and office cabinets.
- Construction of separate Toilet blocks for Boys and girls.
- Complete Plumbing work connecting all the 9 Dormitory blocks.
- Full refurbishing of Auditorium with state of the art Projector, screen, speakers, and the entire hall was laid with new vitrified tiles and sitting chairs. This has been among the best utilised to conduct E shaala classes, presentations and lectures.
Dr.Sudarshan, who has been awarded as Citizen Extraordinaire by Rotary, was present to receive us and taken round the campus explaining the hardships he faced when he started teaching tribal children and established a hospital 38 years ago. All the staff were joyous and thanking our club for several initiatives, which also included training of the staff in RV Teachers college. The outdoor science park was extremely informative.
While on this visit, we also inaugurated Hot water bathing facility for 3 dormitories, wherein the Gujarat boilers were donated by our Rtni.Gowri shankar. We also inaugurated Table Tennis room where in 2 nos were donated by Rtns. Elizabeth Cherian, Meera Shankar and Rajasekar.
This Tribal school, with 350 children, located in a remote place needs all the help..and every rupee spent by us is very well utilised. During the interaction with Dr.Sudarshan, our members were impressed with his vision and committed a donation of 3 nos. boilers and a sanitary napkin machine.
This institution runs an ECO RESORT. The income from this resort is utilised for running the tribal school and hospital. We all enjoyed the serene place and witnessed a Tribal dance performance. The food, ambience and service was par excellence.
It was much more than a total holistic satisfaction for all of us, in every respect. Besides being a purposeful one, our families bonded together very well. It was indeed a great occasion and every moment was fun filled.
Our whole hearted thanks goes to Rtns.Naveen Sridhara, Chairman of committee, Ramakrishna Mudugal who made this visit possible with lot of interest. Special acknowledgement to Rtn. Dinesh who organised the bus transport and everyone else who participated.
