RENOWNED PAST PROJECTS OF ROTARY CLUB OF BANGALORE

 1. ROTARY-T.T.K. BLOOD BANK [1984] [RCB Funding including Matching Grants ~ Rs.180 Lakhs]

Approximately 20,000 units of Blood are collected annually. Over 1,15,000 units of blood have been collected since 1997.

 2. ROTARY SEVABHARATHI SCHOOL [at Nagadevanahalli village] [1961]  [ ~ Rs. 100 Lakhs]

Free-of-Cost education provided to 574 students from weaker sections of society (upto 10th Standard). Planning  to invest an additional  Rs. 1 crore in the next 2 years to convert the school into an Integrated ROTARY CENTRE of LEARNING. Also initiated Vocational Training and Adult Literacy programs for the parents of students.

 3.    (i)  HORTICULTURE FARM for training the Physically Challenged:  [ 2003]

This Project was done by RCB in association with APD [Association of People with Diabilities] . About Rs. 7 Lakhs of MG Funds were spent to develop a Horticulture farm on the outskirts of Bangalore.  Over 50 young people with physical disabilities have been trained and gainfully employed with large companies so far. From now on, APD will train over 50 people annually and get them employed.

       (ii)     COMPUTER  LABORATORY  [at APD]  [2002]

RCB has setup a Computer Lab at APD, Bangalore. Over 500 physically challenged  youth have been trained so far. With  additional computers that were given recently to APD, over 150 candidates will be trained annually by APD [with 22 computers ]

 4.  STUDENTS’ DORMITORY (for SAHASRA DEEPIKA INSTITUTE for Education)  [2003]

Over 50 girl students have been provided accommodation and comfort stations at the Sahasra Deepika School, off Banerghatta Road, Bangalore. [Rs. 15 Lakhs]

 5. MOBILE VANS for Akshaya Patra Foundation  [for distribution of Mid-day meals] [2004 & 2005]

RCB has provided two [2]  Vans to ISKCON, Banglaore  to distribute mid-day meals to 8,000 children every day, 6 days a week. The project was funded through Matching Grants from RI.

 6. STROKE REHABILITATION CENTRE [at ST.MARTHA’S HOSPITAL ]  [2006]

A Stroke Rehabilitation Centre at St.Martha’s hospital was set up using Matching Grant Funds [Rs. 16 Lakhs] from Rotary International. The Centre has been equipped to handle about 20 patients a day. 650 sessions can be held in Physio speech and occupational therapy every month.

 7. EDUCATION FOUNDATION  [Established in 2005 to provide scholarships for needy school children

The Rotary Club of Bangalore Charitable Trust has created a Corpus of approximately Rs. 25 lakhs. Interest earned from this Corpus is utilised  for providing sustaining education for needy children of various schools from Class VI to Class X by giving them scholarship upto Rs.5,000 per child per year. About 30 children are being supported currently. We aim to increase this Corpus to Rs.50 lakhs so that we can fulfil our dream of educating 100 children annually.

 8. OSAAT [One School at a time]:  [2006-07]  [Approximate Cost : Rs. 25 Lakhs]

RCB in association with OSAAT (one school at a time), a voluntary organisation in USA constructed a six class room school after demolition of an old structure at the Govt Higher Primary School at Bannergatta in  south Bangalore. About 450 children study in the school. The school has been equipped with  desks, tables, chairs and cupboards and Chairs. A rain water harvesting facility is also in place.

 9.  Rehabilitation of Tsunami affected Children at Nagapattinam  [2005]

RCB in association with Rotary Club of Nagapattinam in Tamil Nadu  extends regular sustenance support to over 100 Tsunami orphaned children to primarily meet their educational needs together with clothing and nutritional requirements. Rs.4.80 lakhs has  already been spent till August 2007. Total outlay: ~ Rs. 20 lakhs.

 10.  (a) Pediatric Care Ventillator   [2003]  &

RCB  obtained Matching Grant funds for the purchase of a Pediatric Care  Ventillator installed at Mahaveer Jain hospital.  [4 Lakhs]

(b) Bio-Chemistry Analyser  [2003]         

RCB secured MG funding for a Bio-chemistry analyser installed at  P.D.Hinduja Sindhi Hospital [Rs. 8 Lakhs] 

11) Low-Cost  Houses for Slum Dwellers  [SHELTER Project]: [2000-02]

RCB in association  AVAS, KKNSS & Women’s Voice built 35 Low-Cost houses for slum dwellers near NGEF factory, Bangalore at a total cost of about Rs. 14 Lakhs using Matching Grant funds received from Rotary International.

12. Dialysis  Machines [for Bagawan Mahaveer Jain Hospital]  :  [2002]

Matching Grant funds were used to supply several Dialysis units to Bagawan Mahaveer Jain Hospital [Rs. 12 Lakhs]

 13.  Nutrition & Health , Education and Infrastructure [for Parikrma Foundation] : 

RCB has assisted  Three[3] schools of Parikrma Foundation providing Nutritional supplements and mid-day meals to children as well as  Educational and Infrastructure facilities for the school. Matching Grant Funds to the extent of about Rs. 15 Lakhs have been deployed till date.

 14.  Artificial Limb Donation [Limb-a-Day]    [2003 onwards]

More than 450 families are ‘back on their feet’.

 15.  Nutrition Supplement Program [1998-2001] [under RI’s Children’s Opportunity Grant : Rs. 6 Lakhs]

Nutrition supplements were provided to over 300 young children Project Cost : ~ Rs. 4 Lakhs for 3 years. Results were very encouraging.

 16.  Prevention of avoidable blindness:   [2006 & 2007]

40,000 Cataract operations were carried out in  in 2 years [2005-07] in various states of India.        Project Cost:  Rs. 140 lakhs [approx]

 17.  ROTARY-SHANKARA LIBRARY :   [1995-96]  Project Cost : Rs. 12.50 Lakhs
